These are such GREAT ideas! This year seems to be a year for many to reassess our old habits and ways. Decluttering, simplifying and with these waste reduction ideas I am sure we can feel lighter and help the planet! Thanks Raine!

We have the smallest bedroom in the house. It’s a great thing. Sometimes, for some people, space controls the clutter. Love the update! Purge and be free.

My storage containers are so varied as they come from many different times and styles in my life – it’s like an archeological dig! I’m just about to post about my kitchen and it’s “after the purge” life.

Your reduction posts are my favorite. Very in-sync with my life and comforting. I get the concept of not doing before pictures, I am always missing them, but sometimes it works in reverse for me. The cleaner/lighter photo is the before and after we have lived with it for a while, there’s the after photo.

I am very interested in your storage containers. I love all the textures and styles.

Experience gifts are great ,too, I find as Eleanor gets older. Paul is still young enough to really dig “presents.” But Eleanor likes getting “travel” as a present.

My children are terrible at purging toys, bless their hearts. I have to do it sneakily. Eleanor is currently at a stage where she still loves all her dolls, toys, sewing, electronics, books, crafts, legoes, everything! And she uses it all. Her room drives me mad. But I try to remind myself that she’s currently at this wonderfully explosive stage of childhood where she still exploring EVERYTHING and that the world is opening itself up to her. And sometime soon, she’s going to begin to pare down her interests. I just need to breathe and wait and watch. Every time, I think quietly to myself , “Hey, I bet I can purge the Polly Pockets,” suddenly there is a week of non-stop Polly Pocket.

Still it’s hard on me!! Then I just go into Paul’s room and enjoy the order. He’s not good at purging, but he doesn’t have a lot of stuff. And he likes it all to be tidy!

Books were very hard for me. My basic rule was “can I get this from the library?” If I could it went away, if I couldn’t (art books, photoshop/design books, some religious stuff) AND I actually refer back to it on occasion I kept it.
One thing I just recently got rid of is my old camera. That thing has been my baby for 5 years. It was seriously tough to let go – but it went to someone who will love and use it so that made it easier.
