I went with my friend Nic and her family to the Bisti Badlands on Saturday. The trip was over three hours each way. But there was so much gorgeous scenery and good company I barely noticed the time. And when we reached our destination it was sooooooo spectacular. And we barely scratched the surface. Definitely planning on going back in the spring and spending more time there – maybe a weekend – that would be too cool. And the snow there is amazing. Go to my Flickr site for more photos.

So I’m on the main page of Duke City Fix today! I blogged over there about the railyard and Chantal, the owner of the site, put my post on the main page! How cool is that? And here’s another pic.
And yes that is an actual putting green
does this guy look like George W. Bush? Went on an invigorating photohunt today with Leau. I think my muse has finally struck again. Working on new stuff right now, but had to share this one!

This bridge is just west of Albuquerque off of I-40. It was once part of the old Route 66 highway. I love that it’s part of that era and had that history. Can you imagine all of the stories of the stories of the people that crossed this bridge. Mindblowing. Photo was taken last spring – there was still snow on the ground – but I tried to “warm it up” in photoshop.

So I finally buckled down and got my Etsy shop up and running – it even has stuff for sale in it!! Right now it’s only prints, but I plan on putting a few of my resin and wire pieces in it also.

So – I’ve been taking stock of my life recently – specifically my “art life”. I’ve accomplished a lot of things this year, including- sold my art!! (this is huge for me), 2 shows, several art fairs, joined a fabulous group of artists – the Duke City Renegades, started another group – the Rio Grande Artisans with several of my artista friends and had success with both – as a group and individually, spread the word about mixed media art and ATCs through workshops and events from Santa Fe to Magdalena, furthered my skills as a photographer in many ways, and finally started working with encaustics. So what do I want to do with these new skills and experiences? Well – here’s the plan:
Focus on two mediums:
photography and encaustics (and the mixing of the two)
Focus on a specific series:
take my glass negative images and continue reworking them in encaustics,
I have 4 pieces so far
Get my work into a local gallery
Continue with both groups and participate in group shows at the Factory on Fifth
Get my etsy shop in working order – (it’s exists – but needs some TLC before I broadcast it to the world)
Work very targeted and well-researched shows starting next summer
Use this winter and spring to focus on art instead of “production”
Working full-time has put a serious dent in my art time – it’s definitely time to get serious and focus. In 2006 I played with a different media or technique every month as part of the “Las Semanas” group. That was a really good thing for me at that time and I learned a lot. This year my photography and encaustics have really become my joy. I’m still going to continue with my ATCs and explore mixed media that way – but no more acrylics or assemblage/collage stuff for the time being.
FOCUS FOCUS FOCUS!!!
