Thankful

Over on Facebook I started this month by posting a daily “thanksgiving” post. Well, that didn’t last very long, I soon was caught up in holiday preparations, school holidays (there are so many in November!), and life in general. So today, at the end of this month of thanksgiving, I am posting things I am thankful for.

In no particular order:

William Paul – the best son a person could ask for – smart, funny, sweet, sensitive, creative. This little man has a limitless capacity for love.

Katie Beth – the most fearless person I know.  She tests me and teaches me every day.

Art – art saved my life.

My parents – who love me, and loved me enough to allow me to make many (many, many) mistakes without passing judgment, but have always been  there when I asked for help.

New Mexico – for infusing me with it’s singular creative energy. My heart home.

My church – First Congregational UCC – it’s everything I’ve ever yearned for in a church – open, affirming, progressive, welcoming. Thank you for being there when I needed you.

Seattle – where I spent my 20s. Thank you for the wild ride.

My brother, Peter, the rock.

All of my exes – you know who you are – for all of your love that transformed me, for all of the tears that cleansed me, for all of the lessons learned.

My pets through the years – unconditional love is a wonderful thing.

Photography/Photoshop – I am so blessed to have found the perfect medium to speak with my true voice.

My amazing friends in Albuquerque – so many good times, so many hard times where you held my hand, so many things we achieved together.

Our little house. Cozy and cool and funky.

West (By God) Virginia – I didn’t know I would fall in love with you so quickly.

The Wooden Cow Gallery – where I spread my wings and found my calling.

God – without whom all would be nothing.

My extended family – especially my grandparents on both sides. Your love, your stories, and your heritage inspires me.

My birth parents – you gave me life and you made an incredibly brave choice in giving me up for adoption – and allowing me to have opportunities beyond what you could provide.

Louisiana – my birthplace – New Mexico has my heart – but your unique style is stamped on my soul.

My new “family” in West Virginia – your love is feeds me every day.

The New Mexico sky – you deserve your own special mention. Your ever-changing eternal limitlessness awakened my creative eye.

Football and basketball – particularly LSU and Saints football! Geaux Tigers! Geaux Saints!

Music – too many songs and artists to mention here. Music moves me in a way nothing else can.

The internet – sounds weird – but without the internet I wouldn’t otherwise know so many cool people, wouldn’t be able to make such strong and vital connections.

And finally, Chris, my husband, my love, my partner. You lift me up, have provided the support I’ve needed to reach for the stars. Thank you, my love. Happy anniversary tomorrow.
