you cannot silence me
not with your sneer
not with your force
definitely not with your wit
cover my mouth
I will scratch out my missives to the world
bind my hands
my eyes can still sing my story
you cannot silence me
you cannot silence me
not with your sneer
not with your force
definitely not with your wit
cover my mouth
I will scratch out my missives to the world
bind my hands
my eyes can still sing my story
you cannot silence me

I saw this morning and was blown away. I am back to look again, to re-read this poem. I have felt this way for a year or more – even told someone I felt this way, especially on my blog, feeling I should keep quiet about things when I didn’t want to, said I felt like I showed up to the door of my blog with my mouth duct-taped and my hands tied behind my back. I know, I know, a bit dramatic, but true – it drove me crazy. So I finally had to open my mouth, break through my own self-imposed silence, fearing consequences. Now? I feel free.
THIS is amazing. YOU are amazing.
Debi
Hi Debi, Thank you – the words just spilled out – I’ve been having my own tug of war with speaking my truth or just going with the blogging equivalent of small talk. I HATE small talk.
