Tyger, Tyger

Loved the State Fair this year, we saws tigers, acrobats, and performing pigs. The kids fed goats, rode ponies, and went on rides (without mom and dad). The tigers were my favorite – I was on the verge of tears the entire time we watched them because they were so beautiful.

My arty family

My little family indulges me a lot – one weekend at the beginning of summer I decided I needed to get out of town – where to go? Taos of course!  We checked out the Harwood Museum – a small gem of a museum – and they let you take photographs!

The children dutifully posing – they were more interested in the art though

Katie loves to touch everything – that girl is a challenge.  We spend much of our time staring each other down. I usually win.

The white room with white paintings and white light shining down from above.  I could have stayed here all day. Just laid right down on the floor and soaked up all that bright, white silence.  Twas not to be though.

I’d almost forgotten about this quick little roadtrip – discovered the photos while I was looking for some other images.

I need to get back to Taos – it feeds the hippie part of my soul.

not silenced

you cannot silence me

not with your sneer

not with your force

definitely not with your wit

cover my mouth

I will scratch out my missives to the world

bind my hands

my eyes can still sing my story

you cannot silence me

Brain Drain

I just started reading a book on design – because – even though that’s my job title – I’ve never had any formal training or education in design – and occasionally I get a serious inferiority complex regarding this.  A few years ago I was having one of those anxieties and bought a book – but never read it. Now I’m reading it – and I’ve got so many ideas circling through my head I need a butterfly net to catch them all! And I’m reading Twilight (yes, I’m a little behind the curve) so I have visions of beautiful pale vampires circling my head just to keep things interesting.

My brain hurts – but it’s a good ache.

Contemplating

artjournals

taking this class.

I’ve never been a journaler – art or otherwise – I want to be a journaler – to think deep thoughts, write in beautiful prose, put down in words and images my innermost soul’s searching. I have a several blank journals – so pretty, so empty – waiting for inspiration to strike.

My very cool friend Regina is an art journaler – she even teaches journalling classes at The Cow. Her journal make me swoon before their bright beautifulness. I need some of that to rub off on me.

Hmmmm, contemplating.

Everyone needs some down time

Captain America on his day off

We actually stalked this guy – I was so excited when I first saw him that I dropped my camera and missed the shot – so Chris drove ahead a few blocks and we waited for him to pass us.  Thankfully he did not see the crazy woman in the minivan snapping pics of him.  That would have been awkward. :)

No Vintage Photo Friday today

Instead a photo from the aftermath of 9/11 – this flag was unfurled on the Pentagon during rescue operations. 9/11 literally changed my life – it was this day, this event that crystallized the relationship I was in – on that day I realized I needed to be married to the amazing man I was with – to publicly declare that I was with him and he was with me.  And he had that same moment of clarity – we had been together off and on for 9 years  – we were up and we were down – and we never were at the same place at the same time – and suddenly we were.  We clung to each other  – as many people did – and realized all the little roadblocks we had thrown in each other’s way were BS. The small stuff didn’t matter anymore – LOVE matters.

Arlington. Va. (Sept. 13, 2001) -- Military servicemembers render honors as fire and rescue workers unfurl a huge American flag over the side of the Pentagon during rescue and recovery efforts following the 11 Sept. terrorist attack. The attack came at approximately 9:40 a.m. as a hijacked commercial airliner, originating from Washington D.C.'s Dulles airport, was flown into the southern side of the building facing Route 27. U.S. Navy photo by Michael W. Pendergrass. (RELEASED)

Love matters

Peace be with you
