Vintage Photo Friday on Saturday

Can’t believe it’s been so long since I posted.  This month has been super crazy – mostly due to two shows at the Cow this month. I worked three weeks straight at one point. Will is starting school on Monday (gulp). And my hubby is starting school the week after that – life shows no sign of slowing down – and that’s ok – but I do need to carve out some time for myself.

This photo is of my dad when they were living in Joliet, Ill. There are ten million Klovers (or so it seems) living in Illinois and I am related to all of them. My great-grandfather Cornelius Klover moved there with his (he had 13 siblings I believe) family from Holland when he was a child. Part of the family folklore is that young Cornelius has his shoes sucked right off his feet as they were pushing their wagon through some mud on their journey from NYC (their point of entry) to Joliet. Their last name is Holland was Klaaver, but it became Klover when they came to America.

Great picture. My great-grandfather was also Cornelius Klover & my grandfather was Cornelius Klover (born in 1912). Who’s in the picture?

A lot of us are still in Joliet.

Hi Thomas, The boy in the photo is my dad, William John Klover. His parents were Peter James Klover (b. 1907) and Margaret VanDuyne (b.1908) . My uncle Jimmy still lives in the Joliet area. The last time I was in Joliet was in 2002 for my Grandpa Pete’s funeral. There were a TON of Klovers at the viewing and funeral I’d never met before. Are your grandfather and my grandfather brother maybe? ~Raine
