And then I see a Darkness
02/16/2009 by Raine

Who knows where the title comes from – if you know – tell me – and I love you forever.
I went to the Old NM State Pen. It was creepy, sad, full of light, and just as full of pitch black, tortured, and moving. I saw a lot of things I can’t even fully wrap my mind around. Sat in a gas chamber where a man was put to death, found small signs of hope in some cells, hatred cultivated in others, and forced, false cheer in murals painted everywhere. This image is five different images layered together – the poem was written on a wall in a cell. Poetry on a  cell wall – someone’s need to communicate and create still exerting itself. Lots more raw images on Flickr.

Poignant, yet then I remember this was the state pen. The people sent there were/are the most violent and dangerous in the state. And then I REALLY see darkness.
