Cemetery Fence
So I’ve been working on a new series – based on our mini-roadtrips we’ve done this summer. The concept behind the series is that these are all “lost photos” – the ones that fell under the seat, got soda spilled on them, sat on the dashboard and faded in the sun, etc.

and I turned 35 without blinking an eye. To celebrate we went to Silver City – a lovely little arty town – more pics will be uploaded soon to Flickr.

So, I’ve had a very big undertaking going on for a while – I haven’t wanted to post about because I’m too superstitious for my own good – and didn’t want it to fall through. But I feel confident in sharing it now.
I am a part of a local group of artist who have come together to open a co-op gallery!! We just signed the lease today and get the keys on Monday. Tentative grand opening date is October 17 – we’ll see what happens with that. I am a vice-president and art director (that means I’m in charge of the logo, colors, making sure we are keeping our image and message cohesive) – I’m also on the web, marketing, interior design, and membership committees. I’m averaging two meetings a week plus tightening up our logo, getting our initial marketing push going, designing collateral for the grand opening – seems up late working every night these days. But I love it and I love our group and I think this is going to be a great thing for us and for the Albuquerque art community.
Oh yeah – and the name of the gallery?
The Wooden Cow

So I’ve decided to drop in on a challenge hosted by Jen Worden. This month’s challenge is to create five pieces based on the five elements. Apparently different cultures and religions have different elements. In the Chinese culture the elements are Fire, Water, Earth, Metal and Wood.

So last post I was talking about monsoons and here I’m talking about dry heat! The heat I am referring to is Dry Heat Photography, they are hosting a show at Art Gallery 66 in Bernalillo called “Ancient Voices Distant Storms” and I am one of the fourteen artists that will be having work at the show! The opening is July 18th from 5-8 – if you live in the Albuquerque are it is a must see – the show will be up for a month I believe. Here are the two images I’ll have in it.

Did you know New Mexico has five seasons? Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall and Monsoon. The monsoon season is usually the month of July but can go into August. It rains almost every afternoon and evening – and it’s humid (trust me 30% feels humid when you’re used to 5%) We LOVE monsoon season – a chance to run in the rain, jump in puddles, and see rainbows on a regular basis. Here are a few pics of our afternoon.

it was mostly full of work…but then I came home and we got to play outside for a bit.

This is for the 8 x 8 x 8 show I am in in August. The concept is that we have eight artists, each creating 8 pieces of work that are 8″ x 8″. I have six completed, one might be done (still thinking about it), and one that is still completely inside my head. I am doing encaustics on 2 inch deep cradled boards. This will be my first encaustic series to be shown to the world – so I’m excited about that. And several of my friends are participating – and the wild and crazy Paula is the one who came up with the idea and gathered the artist together. Should be a great show – more details as it gets closer.
