Haven’t figured out a name for this, haven’t even figured out if I’m done with it yet.

Monastery

So this church/monastery is just a few blocks from my shop – it completely fascinates me – seems like such a odd thing right in the middle of the Barelas neighborhood. I met one of the monastery’s members when she came in to buy a banner. Asked for her name (for contact info) and she said “Do you want my given name or my monastic name?” One of the weirder questions I’ve fielded there.

Mother's Day

We had a great Mother’s Day, doing our usual thing – packing the kiddos in the minivan and heading out for points unknown. We headed north and found these great ruins at Pecos National Monument. We actually got to go inside a kiva! More pics to follow on Flickr, but this is one of my faves.

Bye Bye American Inn

So there’s this old motel near us that’s being demolished. It’s been empty since 2005 when there was a fire there. It wasn’t cute vintage, retro, cool old. It was gross, ugly, seedy old – as such I’m glad to see it go. I’ve been to visit it twice since they started demolition – last Friday and this morning. Today I went with my very cool neighbor who loves “good” trash as much as I do. We took a lot of pictures and found some really cool stuff also – bedsprings, rusty metal bits, pieces of a dishwasher. We lugged a lot of stuff into her car – and were grinning like fools the entire time. I’m going to post more pics on my Flickr – but here’s the one I love the most so far.
