Is it just me or…
by Raine

And yes that is an actual putting green
does this guy look like George W. Bush? Went on an invigorating photohunt today with Leau. I think my muse has finally struck again. Working on new stuff right now, but had to share this one!

0 Cars to 2 Cars in 60 Seconds
by Raine

My rockstars!
Secret agent man
Silly Hat
So last Monday (Christmas Eve) the cops recovered our car – long story – but the upshot is it was fine and we didn’t lose anything. Before that Chris had talked to the insurance adjuster and was advised of the amount they would be covering which was going to end up being significantly less than what we actually owe on it. He told his mom this and SHE BOUGHT US A CAR! Without telling him of course, So now we have two cars – our minivan and a cute little red 1999 Ford Escort. How crazy is that? And the kicker here is that I don’t drive – never have – I’m a very urban girl and driving never has interested me. Well folks – you heard it here first. I’m 34 years old and will be getting my driver’s permit soon so I can start learning to drive!!!
And the other good thing that came about because of the car situation – we found out how many people love us and are willing to step up and help us out. Our neighbors let us borrow their truck so we could get that last bit of Xmas shopping in, the lovely Leau came and babysat the kids for us, and my dear Leighanna took me to see Sweeney Todd just to take me away from the stress of the whole thing. And so many other people offered help and support!! It was our little Christmas miracle – someone should make a movie. Here are a few pics from Christmas

Bah Humbug or How our car was stolen 3 days before Christmas
12/23/2007 by Raine

So Chris was worked at the New Mexico Bowl yesterday. does he do it for love of the game? No he works a second job becasue we have two small children and we need more money. We’re not poor, but neither of our full-time jobs pay us that well either. So after the game he walked the 10 million miles back to where he parked the car (because working a game does not entitle you to park near the stadium) and our minivan is GONE!!! He immediately talked to the UNM cops (there was actually an officer right there beacuse of a separate incident), hoping that his car had gotten towed, but no it was just stolen. He filed a police report, called our insurance, etc. and then was given a ride home by an officer. We can’t get a rental car until tomorrow because the agencies that contract with our insurance are not open weekends. We’re also out our carseats so we have to buy new ones. A neighbor said we could borrow their truck – but that means only Chris can go out until we get carseats.
So Christmas is officially on hold, I have no stocking stuffers, no food for Christmas dinner, no present for Chris yet. Oh yeah, I’m at work fighting with out printer. I NEVER work weekends at my job – except this one. Of course!
I know none of this is horrible, but it still sucks. We’re going to be out our deductible, who knows when we’ll actually get $$ from the insurance to get a new car. My work is closed next week so I’m out a week’s salary. Which was going to be fine – but now I’m feeling like we’re really screwed.
Printer is messing up again, gotta go!

Quiet
12/19/2007 by Raine

Feeling quiet recently – actually for a while now. Being full-time at work as taken up a lot more of my time than I thought it would. I literally only added 10 hours to my work week – but apparently I was REALLY using those ten hours. Art, friends, and life in general have all moved further down the priority list. Now it’s race home and be with babies. And I love being with babies – but by the time they’re in bed I’m usually too exhausted to think about anything else.
I have all of next week off and I think it’s going to be very good for me. And then Chris and the kids are going to West Virginia at the end of January – and I hope to get a lot done then also – I have so many ideas swirling around inside my head – and I need to start working them out on some panels.

This image was taken Fall 2006 on the High Road to Taos. I love how still and quiet it feels. But it also feels very pregnant – I think it’s because of the birds high up in the tree on the left – I’m waiting for them to all take off at once.

Hidden Beauty

I took this photo at the Aztec Motel last spring. I love finding hidden in beauty in old things and this cool but crumbling motel offers me many opportunities to do so.

Dancer in the Dark
12/16/2007 by Raine

Has anyone out there seen “Dancer in the Dark”? One of the most amazingly gorgeous movies I’ve ever seen – and so depressingly sad and hopeless and the same time. Bjork plays the main character (I love Bjork) and she totally rocks this role. If you need a good cry this is the movie for you!

This image doesn’t really have anything to do with the movie – but when I saw it on the computer screen for the first time “dancer in the dark” is what popped into my head.

Just got back from a holiday party at our friends and neighbors, Stanley and Tom. Stanley is a West Virginian (as is my hubby Chris) and this man bleeds blue and gold. They bonded over their common roots and the fact that they are both recent transplants to NM – Stanley and Tom just moved here a year and a half ago. Anyway….went to this holiday party tonight and had the MOST FUN ever. A bunch of us sat in their back room and watched the Discovery’s Channel’s Planet Earth series. This is an amazing series – buy it or rent it – but you must go forth now and seek it out. It is gorgeous, and interesting, and educational, and entertaining. The funny thing is that this was supposed to be “background” but ended up being center stage. Met this awesome couple (who happen to own a frame shop down the street from us) and we just started making smartass comments on everything. We had more “in jokes” going than I have ever seen. It was so cool to have that kind of instant rapport with people – I am usually the person who never speaks at a party – unless I know most of the people there. We were the last people to leave (we were so engrossed we didn’t realize the actual party had ended).

Oh, and I came home to find out I’ve had another purchase on Etsy – so that’s four since I opened on Monday! And it was my little brother that bought something – I had just told him about opening the Etsy store a few hours before. My bro rocks!

Rome, Italy or…
12/15/2007 by Raine

Las Vegas, NM!! It’s Las Vegas, of course!!
So, it’s been a while since I actually created something BRAND NEW! And I finally did today. Other than that the day was not very fun, but at least I was able to squeeze some Photoshop time in.

Rio Puerco Bridge
12/14/2007 by Raine

This bridge is just west of Albuquerque off of I-40. It was once part of the old Route 66 highway. I love that it’s part of that era and had that history. Can you imagine all of the stories of the stories of the people that crossed this bridge. Mindblowing. Photo was taken last spring – there was still snow on the ground – but I tried to “warm it up” in photoshop.

Etsy Shop
12/10/2007 by Raine

So I finally buckled down and got my Etsy shop up and running – it even has stuff for sale in it!! Right now it’s only prints, but I plan on putting a few of my resin and wire pieces in it also.
