So I’ve been stumped on making ATCs for this month’s trade. I made a few last week with alcohol inks on stampboard – but I gave three of those away the next day – so I needed to make more. So – in a use what I have/experimentational mode I decided to do acrylic washes on cut up canvas. Then I used Adirondack spray washes over them using a roll of duct tape for a stencil. Then I got out my hot pot (hadn’t used it yet) and mixed some UTEE with the additive that’s supposed to make if flexible. Interesting results – I’m definitely not in love with the additive – very weird to work with. But I am satisfied with how these came out. I think I’m going to do some larger canvasses with this process – using resin for the sealant. My neighbor just gave me two canvases – with the caveat that I make a painting for her on one of them. I’m taking this as a good sign as I made her a piece of artwork last year and was never sure if she REALLY liked it or not. So I’m going to gesso over them sometime this week and then talk to her to see if she’s cool with my concept and get some color ideas from her.
EDIT: There are lots of glare spots as the UTEE is very uneven and has some weird pitting – I think that’s from the additive – it kind of foamed up. I think it workds for these pieces – adds another layer of texture – but not what I would want in general.
