Peering Out

I’ve turned into a social butterfly since the family’s gone. I had a yummy lunch with Leighanna and then went to her house, today I met up with my friend Paula, Friday I’m going to a gallery show with several friends. Saturday I’m going to see Pan’s Labrinth, and then later meet up with another friend. And then Sunday I am hosting our artistas group at my house.

I don’t think I’m going to get nearly as much art done as I wanted. But that’s ok – it’s good to stretch my social muscle. I feel like I spent most of last year in hiding – must be that pregnancy/new mom thing.

When I was in my early/mid 20s I went out almost every night – Saturdays -dancing at the Catwalk, Sundays -dancing at the Phoenix Underground, weekend days meant going to the movies and shopping, the rest of the week was spent in bars – usually seeing bands. I actually booked bands for a club in Seattle for a bit. I used to relish the nights I stayed at home by myself.

Journals

I just realized that I bought TWO journals last week – and I don’t actually keep a journal.  I do have a nice, pretty row of empty journals on my bookshelf though.  I’m such a dork!

Manic Monday

Sometimes I wonder if I’m just totally insane. I can’t do copies. Having ten of the exact same thing just depresses me. I know lots of people do it – especially for ATCs, fatbooks, other swap and collaborative things – but I can’t. When I have – due to time constraints usually – I have always been disappointed with the result. It’s like the more times I see the same thing the less happy it makes me.
That being said I very often go back to the same image again and again. Using it in different ways and with different media. These are all ready to be placed on some altered CDs. Some are OLD – the green hindu madonna is one of the first images I ever created in Photoshop. Some are brand spankin’ new like the one of my son walking in the snow.
So now, instead of making the same thing over and over – which makes it easy once you make all the design/layout decisions. I now have to choose the colors for each CD, the right beads, the right fiber or wire, the right place to put the everything! At least I won’t be bored anytime soon. Gotta go to sleep now!

Artfest Trades IV

I promise I won’t show every single trade – but I had to share these because I love the round glass! The glass is dichroic glass and is used by art galleries/museums to light artwork. When you move the ATCs back and forth the image disappears depending on the angle. Very cool!!!

2 down, 98 to go! I have six more that just need fiber, around 20 that are cut up and need to be inked.

These are cut up CDs covered with alcohol inks, I covered the entire CD with UTEE and embedded beads in the UTEE. Images are under microscope slides with aluminum tape “frames” and attached with E6000, and finally added fibers.
